Paddler Co-op is a not-for-profit outdoor education organization. We work hard to provide positive and inspiring recreational paddling experiences, leadership programs and community-based activities that fulfill the needs and interests of our members. In doing so, we aim to surpass expectations in both quality of programs and value.
2008 - 10 years of teaching, learning and growing
Our 2008 season is quickly approaching! We are currently finalizing details, printing brochures and wrapping our heads around the fact that we have been in operation for 10 years.
Upcoming Programs/Events:
Our season will start off with a staff weekend, early May refresher courses, a chilly, high water rescue program and a wilderness first responder recert. Dates for these and other programs are posted throughout our website. Remember - all our core programs run every weekend and throughout the week - we only need three people to run a course.
Gift Certificates: Let us know if you would like to share your passion for paddling with friends or family. Our gift certificates are flexible - one to five days of canoeing or kayaking for anyone ages six and up.
Our organization
We are defined by four governing principles:
Community - Access - Responsibility - Learning
Community Action
We have launched our strongest community focused effort. KidActive is a community initiative that focuses on strengthing the foundation of our communities - the health of young people. The Ministry of Recreation is generously supporting this initiative through a Communities in Action grant.
Community Health
According to a study conducted by Statistics Canada (Health of Canada's Communities, 2002), the health of Renfrew County's young people is clearly at risk - significantly more so than the average Canadian young person. Lack of activity, poor eating habits and an increasingly sedentary lifestyle lead directly to obesity and other physical and mental health issues. In Renfrew County, significant socio-economic barriers contribute even further to preventing children and youth from developing healthy lifetime habits and accessing recreational programs.
Access
KidActive is a community-based initiative that aims to improve the overall health of children and youth in Renfrew County through education, awareness and increased access to physically active and fun recreational programs. Instilling healthy lifetime habits and motivating young people to be physically active are key approaches to effectively altering the present health decline.
Responsibility
We are committed to opening doors and making it easier for you to get outside and paddle Ontario's beautiful rivers responsibly. All of our instructors have a passion for paddling and share a common vision to teach safe, responsible paddling practises. We provide the most professional, safe and fun outdoor learning experience as possible.
Learning
We strongly believe that the ability to create an adaptable and inspiring learning environment defines a good teacher. Our goal is to teach course participants at a pace that works for them - following a progression that is tailored to each individual's learning curve and skill level. No matter where you are at, our instructors will challenge your skills and abilities so that you can rise to the next level. Exceptional instruction is he core element of our programs - and our instructors are the backbone.
