KidActive is a community initiative that focuses on strengthening the foundation of our communities - the health of young people. The Ministry of Recreation is generously supporting this initiative through a Communities in Action Fund.

Issue

According to a study conducted by Statistics Canada (Health of Canada'sCommunities, 2002), the health of Renfrew County's young people isclearly at risk - much more so than the average Canadian young person. Lack of activity, poor eating habits and an increasingly sedentary lifestyle lead directly to obesity and other physical and mental health issues. In Renfrew County, significant socio-economic barriers further contribute to preventing children and youth fromdeveloping healthy lifetime habits and accessing recreational programs.

Local Action

KidActive is a community-based initiative that aims to improve theoverall health of children and youth in Renfrew County through education, awareness and increased access to physically active and fun, recreational programs. Instilling healthy lifetime habits and motivating young people to be physically active are key approaches to effectively altering the present health decline.
