Instructor Training - Whitewater Canada - Kayak

Recreational Moving Water Instructor.

This nationally accredited program is designed for recreational paddlers who wish to introduce others into the sport of whitewater kayaking. Two days of focused technical training provide the basis for teaching flatwater and basic moving water skills.

Participants in this program must be competent in class 2+ whitewater and able to roll consistently. First aid training and CPR are required and the River Safety and Rescue [RSR] certification is recommended. Suitable for teachers/youth workers and other leaders interested in introducing paddling to others.

Course cost: $195.00 [Includes Instructor manual and Whitewater Ontario membership]

Dates - 2007 - Level 1 - May 5/6

                       Level 2 - May 12/13

*At the end of this program new instructors will have a good grasp of 'what to teach' and 'how to teach' but may lack the necessary experience required to teach effectively. Everything takes practice, right? Paddler Co-op offers you the opportunity to hone your instructional skills by working with an accomplished instructor as an assistant on one of our 'introductory' courses. Advanced Whitewater Instructor

This nationally accredited certification is for experienced moving water instructors who wish to teach in class 3+ whitewater and lead river trips. The course is a focused two day technical program that evaluates and refines technical skills, teaching competence and leadership ability.

Participants need to be competent in class 3/4 whitewater and be able to demonstrate skills to performance standards. River Safety and Rescue certification is required and Wilderness First Aid is recommended. This is the required level of certification for instructors teaching at paddling centres, clubs or other commercial organisations. Certification allows instructors to award proficiency levels A/B/C

Course cost: $185.00

Dates - 2005 - TBA

Location: Ottawa river or Gull river depending on participant convenience.
